The official launch of Welling Walls took place during the inaugural block party on June 7, 2025, marking a vibrant celebration of artistic expression and community spirit.
This ‘grand opening’ was a testament to the power of creativity, featuring live mural painting by a cadre of talented artists, while a DJ filled the air with infectious rhythms that energized the crowd. Residents of the Welling Court block party came together to honor their neighborhood and the collective of artists who breathe life into Astoria, Queens.
Among the standout contributions was Fumero's striking mural, “Power of Attraction,” alongside two other notable works: a portrait of Dean Winters and the “Table Series Logo,” all proudly displayed at Welling Court. This year marked the 15th consecutive occasion that Fumero graced the iconic wall at the intersection of 30th and Main Streets, a canvas he first approached in 2011 with a mural depicting Einstein. However, this year carries a bittersweet finality, as construction has commenced, and the vibrant murals that once adorned the wall have been obscured by boards. In the ever-evolving tapestry of New York, nothing remains eternal.
Fumero reflects on his time at Welling with deep gratitude, cherishing the myriad memories forged in this creative haven. The “30th & Main Wall” will undoubtedly be missed, leaving behind a legacy of artistic brilliance that will resonate in the hearts of those who experienced its beauty.
